How do I connect to Matter on my Freestyle?

If your Freestyle is preinstalled, then please check if it’s the latest ET-WIFI version or an older non-built-in Wi-Fi version.

To verify this:

1. Open your Freestyle app

2. Navigate to Settings > Lock Settings > select your lock.

3. The Model type would display as ET-WI-FI, indicating the new Wi-Fi lock.

If it’s the latest ET-WIFI version, then its Matter compatible and you can perform an over-the-air (OTA) firmware update to upgrade the lock to work with Matter.

Steps to Connect Your Freestyle Trilock to Matter:

  1. Update Firmware:
    • Open the Freestyle App.
    • Go to Lock Settings > Firmware Update.
    • Download and install the latest firmware.
  2. Enable Matter:
    • In the Freestyle App, navigate to Lock Settings > Matter Enable and press OK.
    • This will enable Matter on your lock.
  3. Generate QR Code:
    • Use the app to generate a Matter QR code.
    • You can download the QR code or send it to your registered Freestyle account email.
  4. Set Lock to Matter mode:
    • Press the reset/program button on the lock three times.
    • The lock will flash three times and beep three times, indicating it’s ready for pairing.
  5. Connect to a Matter Ecosystem:
    • Open a Matter-compatible app (e.g., Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, or SmartThings).
    • Scan the QR code generated in the Freestyle App.
    • Follow the instructions in the app to complete the setup.

 

If it’s a new Freestyle lock that you just purchased, then it is already Matter enabled. To complete the setup on your lock follow these instructions (also found on the User Guide).

  1. Facing the internal side of the lockset, remove the battery cover then locate the Program button above the batteries. Press the button three times. When successful, the lock will flash blue three times followed by three beeps.

  2. Scan the Matter QR code found on the back of the battery cover using a Matter-compatible mobile application (Apple Home / Google Home / Samsung SmartThings / Alexa) on your smartphone or tablet.
  3. Follow the instructions in your chosen mobile app to add your lock and complete the setup.
